SPEAKER_03Anyway, all of the business is out of the way. And uh, babe, you want to tell them what the title of this show is?
SPEAKER_01All right, guys. The subject, the episode of today. Oh, you forgot to say it. Boy, we got a show for you.
SPEAKER_03Oh my gosh, hold on. How could you forget that? Everybody stop. Hold on. Please. Okay, get in character.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_03Boy, do we have a show for you today? Babe, you want to tell them what the title for today's show is?
SPEAKER_01Thank you so much. The difference between being in love and in lust.
SPEAKER_03Being in love or and or being in lust.
SPEAKER_01There's a difference.
SPEAKER_03There's a difference, but here's the issue they can look so similar. You know, it's so subtle sometimes. And if you're not careful, you think you're in love with somebody and you're really just in lust with them. And we want to explore that. It makes me think about when we were in high school and um sorry, we didn't go to a Christian school, and you know, it wasn't about the Lord. And it was still going on, huh? Uh but you know, I think about, and I remember even thinking about this.
SPEAKER_01Not that I know from experience or anything.
SPEAKER_03You better not. You don't want to make me go west side over here.
SPEAKER_01Not that I know from experience or anything. Wink wink. Uh-huh. Okay.
SPEAKER_03You were born-again virgin, huh? Wink wink. Anyway, um, I remember even in high school, I I I used to notice this, and uh, unfortunately, I was a part of this, so I'm not excluding myself from this, but you would uh get with a young lady or you, you know, a couple would hook up and they decide they like each other, and you know, that meant you had all right to them, you know. You you know, after you kiss them the first time, you get the feel on it. But you really did.
SPEAKER_01That that that's my girl. Yeah, that's my girl now.
SPEAKER_03You know, they'd be like, hey dog, that's you now. That's how we talk back then.
SPEAKER_01That's awful.
SPEAKER_03Growing up in South Central LA. Dog, that's you, yeah, bro. That's me. That meant she was hands-off, she belonged to me. She didn't belong to me. I didn't I didn't do anything to purchase that real estate, but yeah, she was mine.
SPEAKER_01All access.
SPEAKER_03And I was hers, or whoever, whatever the case, all access. And I remember it would seem all nice and sweet in the beginning, and you know, nobody can do any wrong, and then you would sexualize the relationship, and then two, three weeks later, now mind you, you just got together a week ago. On week two or three, you sexualized the relationship by week four. So awful. You're you're you're broken up.
SPEAKER_01It's such an awful story, and then you're going on to the next one.
SPEAKER_03And the cycle will continue. But those feelings that you would feel at that moment, you know, it felt like, you know, unless you were just that kind of dude or, you know, that kind of woman, it felt like you were in love.
SPEAKER_01It was like, oh, found the one.
SPEAKER_03Right. The butterflies or the special one. Can't wait to can't wait to hear from him, can't wait to see him in school, or you know, whatever. You remember uh Tevin Campbell? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know, I was already there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we yeah, that's that 27 years right there. Um but and then you see it in high school, had a couple of friends who worked on, I mean, in college, I had a couple of friends who worked on college campuses and you know, young ladies who held themselves, or even young boys, but more young ladies, and then they would get to school and get with somebody and do found freedom. New found freedom, and it would feel right, and next thing you know, you find yourself in this compromised position, and now you're both broken up. And what you thought was love was really lust. So we want to explore that. So I guess this show is primarily for those who are not married, but in relationships, thinking about a relationship or something like that, or those of you who are married.
SPEAKER_01Uncle Curdy and Aunt Didi. Right.
SPEAKER_03So those of you who are married who may want your, we'll try to be careful here, but want your your your your teenage kids to listen to this one, or your kids on their way to college, or you may know somebody in this situation. We hope that this show will serve as a guideline to learn the difference between the two so you can identify it better.
SPEAKER_01Right. Absolutely. You good with that? I hey hey, that's good stuff.
SPEAKER_03But like we say, nothing matters more than what the word of God has to say on this issue, so let us pray.
SPEAKER_01Amen.
SPEAKER_03Father, we thank you, we praise you, we love you. We pray that this episode finds itself in the ears of someone who really needs to hear this. Father God, we really need you right now to lead and guide our hearts, our lips, our minds, Lord, to speak only that which you would have us to speak. We thank you, we praise you, we love you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Amen.
SPEAKER_03This is a bit of a marathon. We've done this once before, but we got a marathon of scripture going on here.
SPEAKER_01So it's a good read. It's a good listen.
SPEAKER_03So if you need to go get your I had a good time reading. If you need to go get your green matcha tea or your medicine ball from Starbucks or your glass of water or your snack, we'll give you a quick second while I'm talking and giving you a second hint, hint to go get it. We're gonna actually get into some scripture. We're gonna actually get into some scripture today, and uh we're gonna be in there for a while. But like Dinah said, it is a good read.
SPEAKER_01All right.
SPEAKER_03Um, real quick, are you gonna go to the scripture or the definition first?
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh. Hint, hint. I was at the definition. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_03I saw you leave and go somewhere else. I'm like, what are you doing, man?
SPEAKER_01And so I went over to the scripture. I'm like, okay, I'm trying to catch a vibe. I'm trying to pick up what you was laying down.
SPEAKER_03All right.
SPEAKER_01All right. All right. So our scriptures today are gonna be found in Judges and in Genesis. And these were the representations of love and lust that we thought would best fit the subject matter of the day. So before we go into Judges, though, I want to give a little bit of a definition of the word or of the vow, the Nazirite vow, because we're going into Samson, obviously. So it says a Nazarite vow is to abstain from all wine and anything else made from the grapevine plant, such as cream of tartar. That was interesting for me. I was like, really? Grapeseed oil, uh, etc. It says, refrain from cutting the hair on one's head, but to allow the locks of the head's hair to grow and not to become ritually impure by contact with uh corpse or graves, even those of family members. So these were the the three pinnacle things of taking this vow. And sometimes it was done, you know, for a period of time. In our case, we're we're about to read, he was a Nazirite from birth.
SPEAKER_03Right. So let's get on over into So the three um uh pinnacles of uh being a Nazirite vow was no cutting of the hair, um no drinking wine, no drinking. Right.
SPEAKER_01Anything of the you couldn't have grapes or raisins. You could no no no form of divine. Yeah, and no imp uh no making yourself impure by you know touching dead things or uh even your mother, father, sister, brother, they're they're grave nothing. Though you get you had to have no parts of that.
SPEAKER_03They were con so if you took that vow, you were consecrated to the Lord set apart for his service solely.
SPEAKER_01Right. Okay, cool. All right, let's rock and roll.
SPEAKER_03That preface put on your seatbelt, guys. Here we go.
SPEAKER_01I will try to read as fast and fluently as I can. All right, it says again, the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord delivered them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years. Now there was a certain man from Zora of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah, and his wife was barren and had no children. The and the angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her, Indeed now you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall conceive and bear a son. Now therefore, please be careful not to drink wine or similar drink, and to not eat anything unclean. For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son, and no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb. Whoa. Not from birth, from the womb. And he shall begin.
SPEAKER_03That is so key when he said from the womb, because she could because had she had any fermented drink or anything, it would have defiled him as well. That's that's great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. So the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came to me, and his and his countenance was like, and all the his is capitalized. So you know this is somebody big, right? The the he, the he, and all of it capitalized. Oh my goodness, it's so crazy. And the man of God came to me, and his countenance was like the countenance of the angel of God. Very awesome, she said. But I did not ask him where he was from, and he did not tell me his name. And he said to me, Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. That's how they talk, angels of the Lord. Now drink no wine, nor any similar drink, nor eat anything unclean, for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death. So all his life the Nazarite vow was upon him. Then Manoah prayed to the Lord and said, Oh my Lord, please let the man of God who you sent come to us again and teach us what we shall do for the child who will be born. And God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came to the woman again as she was sitting in the field. But Manoah, her husband, was not with her. Then the woman ran in haste and told her husband and said to him, Look, the man who came to me the other day has just now appeared to me. So Manoah arose and followed his wife. When he came to the man, he said to him, Are you the man who spoke to this woman? And he said, I am the great I am. Manoah said, they were supposed to fall over. But if it was an angel of the Lord, then they wouldn't fall over. It wasn't Jesus. I'm taking it was Jesus. Anyway, I digress. Manoah said, Now let your words come to pass. What will be the boy's rule of life and his work? So the angel of the Lord said to Manoah, Of all that I said to the woman, let her be careful. She may not eat anything that comes from the vine, nor may she drink wine or similar drink, nor eat anything unclean. All that I commanded her, let her observe. Then Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, Please let us detain you, and we will prepare a young goat for you. And the angel of the Lord said to Manoah, Though you detain me, I will not eat your food. But if you offer a burnt offering, you must offer it to the Lord. For Manoah did not know he was the angel of the Lord. Then Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, What is your name that when your words come to pass we may honor you? And the angel of the Lord said to him, Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful? See, that makes me think it was Jesus, but I I digress. So Manoah took the young goat with the grain offering and offered it upon the rock to the Lord. And he did a wondrous thing while Manoah and his wife looked on. It happened as the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame of the altar. Okay? When Manoah and his wife saw this, that's when they fell. They fell on their faces to the ground.
SPEAKER_03Come on.
SPEAKER_01And the angel of the Lord appeared no more to Manoah and his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the Lord. And Manoah said to his wife, We shall surely die because we have seen God. He was like, We're gonna die, baby, we're gonna die. And the wife was like, Calm down. Calm down, dude. What his wife said it too.
SPEAKER_03Technical.
SPEAKER_01What did his wife said to him? If the Lord had desired to kill us, come on, stop, stay focused. It's literally forgive me, Jesus. If the Lord had desired to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering from our hands, nor would he have shown us all these things, nor would he have told us such things as uh as these at this time. So the woman bore a son, the woman bore a son, excuse me, and called his name Samson, and the child grew and the Lord blessed him. And the spirit of the Lord began to move upon him in Man in Mahane Dan between Zora and Eshdiel. All right. Now Samson went down to Timnah and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines. So he went up and told his father and mother, saying, I have seen a whole woman. That's my whole. I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines. Now therefore, get her for me as wife. Then his father and mother said to him, Is there no woman among the daughters of your brethren or among all my people that you must go and get a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines? Is there not one over here? And Samson said to his father, get her for me, for she pleases me well. Come on. That's how he said it. Yummy. For she pleases me well.
SPEAKER_03Hubba hubba.
SPEAKER_01But his father and mother did not know that it was the Lord that he was seeking.
SPEAKER_03Hold on real quick.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Pin that guys. Pay attention to that right there. But his mother and father did not know that it was of the Lord. Right. Just put a pen right there.
SPEAKER_01That it was of the Lord.
SPEAKER_03It was a he fell in love. He he he was attracted. He fell in love. He had a thing for a Philistine Philistine woman.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't say that he fell in love, but he did he didn't know. That's why I said he had she pleased him well.
SPEAKER_03He had a thing for a Philistine woman.
SPEAKER_01She was easy on the eye.
SPEAKER_03And it said that the Lord had, what does it say? The Lord had what?
SPEAKER_01It says, but his father and mother did not know that it was of the Lord.
SPEAKER_03Just pay attention to that right there. Okay, continue.
SPEAKER_01Okay, that's painted that one. Okay, that he was seeking an occasion to move against the Philistines. There was a method to his madness. Yes. For at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel. Mm-hmm. And not saying that God has anything madness. Let's let's retract that. All right. So Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother and came to the vineyards of Timnah. Now his now to his surprise, why was he in the vineyard? Should he have been in the vineyard? He wasn't supposed to be near no vines.
SPEAKER_03You're right.
SPEAKER_01Right? Okay, we're gonna continue.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he over there looking at the grapes, kind of like Eve was looking at that that fruit. What are you doing over there with those grapes in the vine?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_03You're a Nazirite, bro. What you doing?
SPEAKER_01Now, to his surprise, a young lion came roaring against him, and the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat. How do you tear apart either? That's my question.
SPEAKER_03Well, a lion is coming at you. Yeah. A 600, I'm assuming. A six, seven hundred.
SPEAKER_01It says a young one. It says a young one. A young lion. So a 300.
SPEAKER_03No, no, that's that's still kind of a cub. When they're saying that right there, that dude was for real. He he was in his full strength.
SPEAKER_01How do you tear apart either?
SPEAKER_03Or that lion was in his full strength.
SPEAKER_01He grab a goat and tear it apart. What kind of strength is that?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Who is this guy?
unknownRight?
SPEAKER_01Okay. Though he had nothing in his hands, so he tore apart the lion as if he would t as if one would tear apart a goat. I don't I don't know how you do either. But he tore the lion apart with nothing in his hands. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. He had touched, he had done something unclean.
SPEAKER_03So he's in the vineyard. He's near the vineyard. Near the vineyard.
SPEAKER_01That's that's problem number one.
SPEAKER_03He's near uh the uh the the the Israel liquor store. Oh stop, stop and now he's torn a carcass.
SPEAKER_01Right. He's touching a dead thing. Uh well, well, he was in in this part right here, he was saving his life. It was coming at him, he had to do what he had to do. But okay, we're gonna continue. All right. Uh but he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. Then he went down and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well. After some time, when he returned to get her, he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03That was what, near the vineyard?
SPEAKER_01Right. And behold, it had to be near the vineyard. You're making jokes, but it had to be because he was standing near the vineyard when the young lion came at him. Mm-hmm. Okay. All right. And behold, a swarm of bees and honey were in the carcass of the lion. So what did he do? He took some of it in his hands and went along eating.
SPEAKER_03Whoa.
SPEAKER_01Now it doesn't specifically say that he touched the lion.
SPEAKER_03He handled a dead car.
SPEAKER_01He got he got near. He he he he mmm look.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. He did.
SPEAKER_01Right?
SPEAKER_03He did. Don't don't don't don't make excuses for Sam.
SPEAKER_01I'm trying not to add the I, the dot, or the tittle to the word.
SPEAKER_03But uh he's coming against that vow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_03You know, the Nazarite vow.
SPEAKER_01Okay, he took some of it eating along the way. When he came to his father and his mother, he gave some to them. And they also ate, but he did not tell them that he had taken the honey out of the carpet. This is how you know that it was wrong.
SPEAKER_03This is how you know that it was wrong because twice now it says that he did not tell his mother and father what he had done. Right.
SPEAKER_01After he killed it, and then also Nazarite, this Nazarite from the womb. Okay. So his father went down to the woman, and Samson gave a feast there, for a young man used to do so. And it happened when they saw him that they brought thirty companions to be with him. Then Samson said to them, Let me pose a riddle to you. If you can correctly solve and explain it to me within the seven days of the feast, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing. But if you cannot explain it to me, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing. And they said to him, Pose your riddle that we may hear it. So he said to them, Out of the eater came something to eat, and out of the strong came something sweet. Now for three days they could not explain this riddle. But it came to pass on the seventh day that they said to Samson's wife, because she's wife now, the the the Timna person This whole thing that God is being pleased him well. Exactly. Uh they came to her and uh I'm sorry, but it came to pass on the seventh day that they said to Samson's wife, Entice your husband that he may explain the riddle to us, or else we will burn you and your father's house with fire. You and your father's house.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she was in a rock in a hard place.
SPEAKER_01With fire. Have you invited us in order to take what is ours? Is that not so? You know, they're like whole accusing her. Then Samson's wife wept on him and said, You only hate me, you do not love me, you have posed a riddle to the sons of my people, but you have not explained it to me. And he said to her, Look, I have not explained it to my father or my mother. So should I explain it to you?
SPEAKER_03Come on.
SPEAKER_01He took he was like, Look a here. That's what his look meant. Look a here, woman. I ain't even told my mama and daddy. You think I'm the Bible reads different in my head, people. I don't know if it reads the same for you. Now I'm at uh I'm in chapter 14, starting at verse 17, if you're with me. All right, in a new King James Version. All right, it says, Now she had wept on him the seven days while their feast lasted, and it happened on the seventh day that he told her, because she pressed him so. Don't this sound familiar? Then she explained the riddle to the sons of her people. So the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey, and what is stronger than a lion?
SPEAKER_03Whoa.
SPEAKER_01And he said to them, if you had not ploughed with my heifer, uh oh, I hold here heifer.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01But it says here, heifer. Okay, if you had not ploughed with my heifer, you would not have solved my riddle. This heifer here. Then the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty of their men, took their apparel, and gave the changes of clothing to those he had explained the riddle.
SPEAKER_03We gotta remember, God is behind this.
SPEAKER_01Right. I know you have to keep saying that. So his anger was aroused, and he went back up to his father's house. And Samson's wife was given to his companion who had been his best friend.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_01He he did. Do you think he wanted no parts of her? Like, was he so disappointed and done that, you know, he was like, pfft. And someone, her father, I think it says, just, well, I thought you hated her. So I gave her to your best friend, your best friend?
SPEAKER_03Samson had just put in that work. He had to go up to his father's house. All those people he killed. But at this time, um, this is just my assumption. He's feeling betrayed at this time. You know, he's feeling wild. But he knew. He whole called her hei. But you know what?
SPEAKER_01That's why we use that's why that's why people say heifer. It's in the Bible. That's Bible, that's scripture. Y'all just read it. I read it.
SPEAKER_03You so close to the line right now. You you you you may have crossed the line. This is your second time. I read it.
SPEAKER_01I read it. We just read it in in Judges chapter 14.
SPEAKER_03First, you just told the people.
SPEAKER_01Wow, no, no, no. No, we're not gonna revisit that. No, there's no need. Some people may have missed that. We do not need to revisit that.
SPEAKER_03Listen, men, men, men, be men in your home. Don't ever let your wife ever have to tell you to grow up hair. Please.
SPEAKER_02See, see?
SPEAKER_03Don't do it. See?
SPEAKER_01I didn't even say it all the way. That's unnecessary. Judges chapter 15. After a while, in the time of wheat harvest, it happened that Samson visited his wife with a young goat. Baby. I'm bringing the presentation. We got a present. I got a present for you. I'm bringing the young goat. I got that young goat. All right. He said, Let me go into my wife, into her room. Mm-hmm. But her father would not permit him to go in.
SPEAKER_03We had been listening to Marvin Gay.
SPEAKER_01What's which song? Oh, stop it. Oh, father. All right. He heard that it needed that healing. Yeah. Her father said, I really thought that you thoroughly hated her. Therefore, I gave her to your companion. Is not her younger sister better than she? Please take her instead. This is the Bible, people.
SPEAKER_03Can't make this up.
SPEAKER_01No, you cannot. And Samson said to them, This time I shall be blameless regarding the Philistines if I harm them. This is on y'all. This is not on me. This is not on me. This is on y'all. Then Samson went and caught 300 foxes. How he did this, I I still haven't a clue. And he took torches, turned the foxes tail to tail, and put a torch between each pair of the tail of tails. So it's like he tied the tails in a knot. 150 pairs of foxes. This is my question. Where were the other 298 foxes while he was tying the first two together? How did he maintain them?
SPEAKER_03He probably trapped them.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness. Alright. When he had set the torches on fire, he let the foxes go into the standing grain of the Philistines and burned up both the shocks and the standing grain, as well as the vineyards and olive groves. Then the Philistines said, Who has done this? And they answered Samson, the son-in-law of the Tim Knight, because he was because he has taken his wife and given her to his companion. He Samson was thoroughly upset.
SPEAKER_03He was literally like y'all about to catch all his smoke.
SPEAKER_01So the Philistines came up and burned her and her father with fire.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_01Gosh.
SPEAKER_03Wow. He trying to bring his his his wife a goat. She ends up getting burned and her father.
SPEAKER_01And her father.
SPEAKER_03So she it's a wrap.
SPEAKER_01Samson said to them, Since you would do a thing like this, I will surely take revenge on you, and after that I will cease. So he attacked them hip and thigh with a great slaughter. Then he went down and dwelt in the cleft of the rock of Edom. An army hip and thigh. Okay? Now the Philistines went up and camped in Judah and deployed themselves against Lehi. And the men of Judah said, Why have you come up against us? So they answered, We have come up to arrest Samson, to do to him as he has done to us. Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Edom and said to Samson, Do you know or do you not know that the Philistines rule over us? Do you are you not knowing this? He said, What is this that you have done to us? And he said to them, As they did to me, as I have done to so I have done to them. I can see him. I can see him being real gangster with that answer to. What'd you do? What are you doing? They say, as they did to me. Can I keep it one time?
SPEAKER_03It looked like the children of uh Judah, they needed to grow up here. Because instead of sitting over here, you know, um, linking up with Samson. Bro, if you did this by yourself, they're like, Man, don't you know they have rulership over us? What are you doing? You bringing all of these problems on us and instead of them standing up with him.
SPEAKER_01He said, uh he said, I'm doing to them what they did to me. But they said to him, We have come down to arrest you, that we may deliver you into the hands of the Philistine. Then Samson said to them, Swear to me that you will not kill me yourselves. So they spoke to him, saying, No, but we will tie you securely and deliver you into their hands, but we will surely not kill you. And they bound him with two new ropes and brought him back from the rock. When he came to Lehi, the Philistines came shouting against him, and here we go. Then the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and the ropes that were on his arms became like flax that is burned with fire, and the and his bonds broke loose from his hands. He found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, reached out now. If it's the jawbone of the donkey, the donkey got to be dead. You know, so he found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, reached out his hand and took it, and killed a thousand men with it. Then Samson said, With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps upon heaps, with the jawbone of a donkey, I have slain a thousand men. And so it was when he had finished speaking that he threw the jawbone from his hand and called that place Ramath Lehi. Then he became very thirsty. So he cried out to the Lord and said, You have given this great deliverance by the hand of your servant, and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised? This is how he talked to God.
SPEAKER_03They had a they had that relationship.
SPEAKER_01They had something going on, right? So God split the hollow place that is in Lehi, and water came out, and he drank, and his spirit returned, and he revived. Therefore he called the name Enhakor. Oh, did you hear me hit that? Haq. Which is in Lehi to this day. And he judged Israel twenty years in the days of the Philistine. All right. Could you imagine? I I really do want to visit Israel. I do. I want to see these places. Like, could you imagine seeing the rock? What is it? The uh in they called the name of it in Hakor, which is in Lehi, it says to this day. Could you imagine going to the water? That would be awesome. And if there's water still coming from it. Stop it. Come on. Stop it.
SPEAKER_03There's no water coming from it.
SPEAKER_01You don't know that.
SPEAKER_03Oh man, just go ahead.
SPEAKER_01Okay, last one, guys. Now, Samson went to Gaza and saw a harlot there. Oh. Uh-huh. And went into her.
SPEAKER_03Separated, consecrated to the Lord.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. With his separated, consecrated self. He went into her. When the Gazites or Gazites, how would you pronounce that? Gaza. When the Gazites were told Samson has come here, they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city. They were quiet all night, saying, In the morning, when it is daylight, we will kill him. We gon' get 'em. And Samson lay low till midnight. I like how the Bible reads that. And Samson lay low till midnight. He chilled. Yeah, he was just laying low. Then he arose at midnight, took hold of the doors of the gates of the city, and the two gateposts, pulled them, bar and all, put them on his shoulders, and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron. Afterwards it happened that he loved a woman in the valley of Soric, whose name was Delilah. That was her name. And it says he loved her. And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her.
SPEAKER_03The first one it said that, and that's why I said put a uh stick a pen in this, because the first one, the Lord had said that he was, you know, the his parents didn't know that the Lord was behind this because he was using that situation to um, you know, start to tear down the stronghold of the Philistines. This one, Samson.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't say that. Yeah. It may still be a a part of the process, but it doesn't say that the Lord was.
SPEAKER_03No, yeah, he's not a part of this one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it says, uh, and the Lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, entice him and find out where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to afflict him, and every one of us will give you eleven hundred pieces of silver. Wow, that sounds like a lot of silver. So Delilah said to she just came flat out. She just no, no cooth, no nothing. So Delilah said to Samson, please tell me where your great strength lies, and with what you may be bound to afflict you. How do you say that? Like, honey, please tell me where your weakness is. If Samson was wise, that that you may be bound and afflicted, tell me. Come on, tell me.
SPEAKER_03Come on, baby. Tell me. Tell me. If he was wise, he should have picked up on this and said, wait a minute, didn't I just go through this before with another with my old wife? Who was a Philistine woman and now this one's asking me similar things.
SPEAKER_01That whole heifer over there. I think you just want to say heifer. I I said heifer. I put the E R on it. I didn't believe it at the end. All right. And Samson said to her, If they bind me with seven fresh bowstrings not yet dried, then I shall become weak and be like any other man. So the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh bowstrings not yet dried, and she bound him with them.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_01She did it. Hold the lily. Now men were lying in wait, staying with her in the room. And she said to them, The Philistines are upon you, Samson. But he broke those bowstrings. I I'm reading too fast. Come on. I'm talking and reading. But he broke those bowstrings and a str like a s as a strand of yarn breaks when it touches fire. So the secret of his strength was not known. But you would think at this point he would be looking at Delilah sideways, right? I only told you this. And and you bound.
SPEAKER_03All of a sudden these people are lying away for me.
SPEAKER_01You bow you set me up.
SPEAKER_03But you know what? This is this is a great point because sin, when it seems like you get away with it, makes you more comfortable in sin and makes you arrogant.
SPEAKER_01Man.
SPEAKER_03You know, so in in a sense, um he Taunting her as well.
SPEAKER_01Toying with her.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01My goodness. All right. Then Delilah said to Samson, Look, you have mocked me and told me lies. Now, please tell me what you may be bound with. I mean, she had to be doing something real right to say, or maybe real right now. Yeah, that's real something to say, you didn't tell you you're mocking me. Now he doesn't even say I tried to bind you with those seven fresh strings or bowstrings, and it didn't work. You're mocking me. Tell me the truth. How can I afflict you?
SPEAKER_03Exactly.
SPEAKER_01How can I bind you?
SPEAKER_03He's not sitting over here saying, Girl, you just set me up. You had these people lining. None of that. Yeah. So, you know, he he's he's thinking he's invincible. He's not leaning on the Lord. You if you notice, right? Now the Lord is nowhere in in these last few verses. There, there's no Lord. This is just him moving solo outside of the Lord and moving in his own arrogance.
SPEAKER_01My goodness. Okay. Verse 11, chapter 16, it says, So he said to her, If they bind me securely with new ropes that have never been used, then I shall become weak and be like any other man. Therefore Delilah took Delilah, her whole self, took new ropes and bound him with them, and said to him, The Philistines are upon you, Samson. And the men were lying in wait, staying in the room, but he broke them off his arms like a thread. Delilah said to Samson, Until now you have mocked me and told me lies, tell me what you may be bound with. She's still I mean, this is their conversation. There has to be some other conversation going on, but she she's coming at him after and those conversations must be really good because he's just he's just he's just toying, he's just dragging her along and she's just doing exactly what he said. You you really think he would have been like, All right, you really are trying to set me up.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, but this is what happens when you don't move away from sin.
SPEAKER_01Craziness. Okay. So I'm gonna start back at 13. Delilah said to Samson, Until now you have mocked me and told me lies, tell me what you may be bound with. And he said to her, If you weave the seven locks of my head into the web of the loom, so she wove it tightly with a bat with a batten of the loom and said to him, The Philistines are upon you, Samson. But he awoke from his sleep and pulled out of the baton and the web from the loom. Do you notice right here?
SPEAKER_03Do you notice right here that he's getting closer and closer to the thing and where his actual strength lied? You know, he knew you know he knew about you know cutting of the hair. He knew who he was. Now, because he's getting more comfortable in sin, you know, this is us reading into the scriptures, he's getting more comfortable in his disobedience, in his sin, in his flesh, that now he's starting to even toy and get even closer to the thing that really can cause him to become with strength. Absolutely, and that's what we can do as well.
SPEAKER_01Then she said to him, How can you say I love you? She went all in. How can you say you love me when your heart is not with me? Because you will not tell me how I can afflict you. How do how do you say you love me?
SPEAKER_03Even though he never married this one.
SPEAKER_01How how dare you lie to me? How do you lie? You're a liar. Your lips are lying. You say you love me, but you won't tell me how to afflict you and bind you.
SPEAKER_03And hurt you.
SPEAKER_01Right. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03Even though I've even though every time we're driving. And had men waiting for you.
SPEAKER_01Right, right.
SPEAKER_03Come on.
SPEAKER_01Then she said to him, How can you say I love you when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times and have not told me where your great strength lies. And it came to pass when she pestered him daily with her words and pressed him, so that his soul was vexed to death that he told her all his heart, and said to her, No razor has ever come upon my head, for I have been a Nazarite to God from my mother's womb. If I am shaven, then my strength will leave me, and I shall become weak and be like any other man. Here, reading this, I used to think that it was just those three times, and then he told her. But it says here that she pestered him daily, day in, day out, and he just it says it vexed his soul to death. That's a serious pestering and pressing. My goodness.
SPEAKER_03Because now he's entangled in sin, and guess what? He can't just get up and leave now. You know, he's he he's entangled. Right. We need to watch out for this Saints.
SPEAKER_01Man, okay. So when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent because the the guys had gone home by this time. They was like, We done with you, we're not laying in wait. Call us when you get the real answer. When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up once more, for he has told me all his heart. So the Lords came, the so the Lord, sorry, of the Philistines came up to her and brought her, brought the money in their hand. Oh my goodness. Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him. Just right there. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him. And she said, The Philistines are upon you, Samson. So he awoke from his sleep and said, I will go out as before at other times and shake myself free.
SPEAKER_03He didn't even know he had a ball faded.
SPEAKER_01He didn't know he had faded.
SPEAKER_03Gave him a taper. He didn't even know.
SPEAKER_01He didn't know. He said, Okay, okay, I'm gonna go out and shake myself free. But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him. Then the Philistines took him and put out his eyes.
SPEAKER_03Take that.
SPEAKER_01Good Lord, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze feathers, and he became a grinder in the prison. However, the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaven. It says, Now the lords of the Philistines gathered together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon, their God, and to rejoice. And they said, Our God has delivered into our hands Samson, our enemy. When the people saw him, they praised their God. This is the lowercase G guys, for they said, Our God has delivered into our hands our enemy, the destroyer of our land, and the one who multiplied our dead. So it happened when their hearts were merry, they were a little tipsy, or very tipsy, and they said, Call for Samson that he may perform for us. Like a whole circus bunny, right? So they called for Samson from the prison and he performed for them. What what could he have done? I d what what I don't know. And they stationed him between the two pillars, between the pillars. Then Samson said to the lad who had led him by the hand because somebody had to lead him. They took they took his eyeballs. Let me feel the pillars which support the temple so that I can lean on them. He said, I just need to rest. I just need to rest a little bit. I'm tired. Now the temple was full of men and women. All the lords of the Philistines were there. About 3,000 men and women on the roof watching while Samson performed. Then Samson called to the Lord, saying, Oh Lord God, all capitals, remember me, I pray. Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes. And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars which supported the temple, and he braced himself against them, one on his right and the other on his left. Then Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he pushed with all his might, and the temple fell on the Lord's and all the people who were in it. So the dead that he killed at his death were more than he had killed in his life. And his brothers and all his father's household came down and took him and brought him up and buried him between Zora and Eshtel in the tomb of his father Manoah. He had judged Israel twenty years.
SPEAKER_03Wow. While you're going to the next scripture, we're um gonna talk about this a little. And, you know, I know we're running a little um long on this one, but this is so important that we feel it deserves the time that it we're we're we're giving it. So we we hope that you bear with us. And we we say, you know, um, every once in a while we like to read scripture like this because it's it's so important, and it's my belief that too many of us don't know a lot of these accounts, you know. We we might stay in the uh the New Testament or the Gospels, or but there's so many awesome stories that are relevant to our lives. And um uh just to unpack some of this before we go to the next scripture. Um if you look at it, um we as believers in Christ, um especially pay attention, young young kids on this one or young folks on this one, we take a form of a Nazarite vow. Um, the Nazarite vow is a type of or a shadow of what we have as far as a relationship with Christ. Okay, now we're set apart for his work. We've been redeemed, we're consecrated for his work. And if there is anybody out there who does not know Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior to this day, all you have to do is says, confess with your mouth, believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord and He makes you a promise. You shall be saved. There is nothing that you have done that you cannot be saved from. Amen. Nothing. The only way that you can blaspheme the Holy Ghost is to not to die on this earth, to leave this earth, rejecting Christ rejecting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. So today is the day for salvation. So if you have been out there and you don't know the Lord, you know, or you you need to come back to the Lord, confess your faults to the Lord, recognize that He is your Savior, recognize that He has died on the cross for your sins and ask Him to come into your heart right now.
SPEAKER_01Today, amen.
SPEAKER_03You know, but we are we have taken a type of a Nazarite vow. Um, or that was more of a shadow, like I said, of this, and we're set apart. But when you find yourself in a situation where you're giving more over to your lust and your desires, I mean Samson, don't get it wrong, he was a wild man, and God's ultimate goal here was to get rid of the Philistines because they had taken rulership over Israel because Israel had done evil in the sight of God. So here it is evil, uh Israel does evil in the sight of God. God allows his people to be taken into captivity to humble them, and now God is using Samson to free them, you know. But Samson is a bit of a wild man. In the beginning, when we find out about the first wife that Samson is with, God says that he was behind that one, you know, and it oh that's what God used to get in there and to start the process of eliminating the Philistines. Okay, but you know, when we start to see things of him being near the vineyard, you know, he shouldn't have even been nowhere near that vineyard.
SPEAKER_01I I don't think so. I mean, we could be we could be adding a tittle, but we weren't supposed to be near the vineyard, bruh.
SPEAKER_03And it makes me wonder that he was opening the door where sin was, and then guess what? We're reading into the scriptures a little bit, but then all of a sudden that lion comes. You know what I'm saying? Now he has to kill the lion.
SPEAKER_01And that fight or flight, I get that. You had to do what you had to do, but you did not have to go back.
SPEAKER_03And then you go back, so that's kind of like where we're romancing sin.
SPEAKER_01You did not have to go back and get that honeycomb out of there.
SPEAKER_03And now now you're you're you're you're in sin. And as you notice, it started to progress and progress. Then he goes into a harlot, separated, consecrated.
SPEAKER_01How often, listen, supposed to be, well, he is separated and consecrated, but his separated, consecrated self went into the water. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah, exactly. Into the the woman of the night. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03And guess what? That's what we do. We are separated, separated for God. His mind was telling them no.
SPEAKER_01But his body, but my body. He R. Kelly, the situation.
SPEAKER_03And that's what we do, um, children of God. We we romance evil, we romance sin. We romance love. Or not let me rephrase. We entertain it. Right. We entertain it in the world. Romance is a good word. Entertaining it turns into romancing it, is where I was going. Okay, okay. There's a progression that happens. And so now he's eating out of the carcass. And you remember twice when he killed the lion, it says he did not tell his father. That was for a reason. When he got the honey out of the carcass, it said he did not tell his mother and his father. That was for a reason.
SPEAKER_01But he shared with them.
SPEAKER_03But he shared with them, mama because evil, and this is something else, another lesson. Evil always, just like misery, loves company. I was thinking about obedience loves company. It does, it wants to invite people in. And so here we are. We're separated for the things of the Lord, made righteous, made holy. But we're finding ourselves in situations where we're in intimate settings with someone we're interested in, opening up the door for sin to come in. You know, unfortunately, that's what Miss Dinah and myself did. We're not proud of that. Why?
SPEAKER_01We're not proud little transparency.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we're not proud of that. Come on, tell the truth and shame the devil. Right. We're not proud of that. You know, and we if we can save a couple from some of you know our issues that we went through. Oh my gosh. And so we want to be careful here. And so here, this was a man that was driven after his own lust. And look at how foolish it made him. Here he was. He was in a situation where the Philistines, Philistines or Philistines, had told his first wife that listen, if you don't find out how we can get to him, we're gonna burn your and your father's house.
SPEAKER_01Your father and she was in a rock and hard place.
SPEAKER_03I get it. But then this is what sin does in our life. It makes us foolish, it makes us do things that we would never even consider doing. So now, after he goes into a harlot, he finds another woman that he falls in love with or falls for and falls in lust with, which is Delilah, and she constantly was telling him, Hey, how can I bring you down? How can I destroy you?
SPEAKER_00And and and through his arrogance, you don't love me because you won't tell me how I can hurt you.
SPEAKER_03How I can hurt you.
SPEAKER_00I'm asking you, why you're not telling me?
SPEAKER_03Right. And so here, through his getting comfortable in sin, getting comfortable in disobedience, moving outside of the will of God, like we can so easily do, and being arrogant and haughty in the process, you know, you find yourself in this situation to where it eventually leads to your demise. Now, here's the cold part. God can God can still use us even when we find ourselves in these bad positions, but or situations. But here's the thing. Do you want to be one that's usable by God? Well, yeah, but yeah, do you want to be in There's consequences to these sins. Do you want to be found in uh be used in disobedience? Or do you want to be used by God because you you're you're you're doing his will? His way, um, Samson's way, ended up with him getting his eyes gouged, with him having to lose his life, with um just all of this, this, this unnecessary stuff that did not have to happen had he not entertained and romanced um this sin and this lust which led to this. So these are just a few things that you can look out for, man. Sexual sin is so deadly, it's so it's so damaging. It's so yeah, it it's not a good thing.
SPEAKER_01God was merciful to us, absolutely, like we've said in other podcasts. We were destined to marry other people. This could not have happened.
SPEAKER_03We weren't what I I I won't say the word destiny.
SPEAKER_01Not destined, but we were on a path. Right. We were together, broke, got together, got back together, broke out with other people.
SPEAKER_03Yep, and then I mean almost married other people. Right, you know.
SPEAKER_01So, yes, not destined. This, this here. Come on now, this right here. Come on, destiny. But because what I'm saying is open. Yeah, and what if, what God, thank you, Lord, that it did not happen.
SPEAKER_03But what if in this case, God was still merciful. Look how merciful God was to him to give him his, it's just as his hair grew back, he gave him strength. One of the things. Well, that's what you could take from it because it does say that his hair began to grow again. I'm not putting the emphasis on the hair growing again more so than I am. That one last time God was merciful to him. But don't take the attitude, well, God got you guys through it, so I can go and do it, continue doing what I'm doing. You don't know what the consequences are gonna be.
SPEAKER_01What yours will be, yeah, right.
SPEAKER_03So don't be a man like this who was driven by his lust. And like I said, we know we're going a little long here, but we have one more account that we want to read to you guys. It's not as long, guys. And then we'll wrap it on up.
SPEAKER_01It's just it's just uh 30 30 scriptures. I mean 30 verses. All right, it's found in Genesis uh chapter 29. We're gonna go verses one through thirty, and this is the beautiful story of when Jacob meets Rachel. It says, So Jacob went on his journey and came to the land of the people of the east, and he looked and saw a well in the field, and behold, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it. For out of the for out of that well they watered uh the flocks. A large stone was on the well's mouth. Now all the flocks would gather there, and they would roll the stone from the well's mouth, water the sheep, and put the stone back in its place on the well's mouth. And Jacob said to them, My brethren, where are you from? And they said, We are from Haran. Then he said to them, Do you know Laban, the son of Nahar? And they said, Yeah, we know. We know that crook. Yeah, we know him. And they said, Yeah, we know him. So he said to them, Is he well? And they said, He is well. And look, his daughter Rachel is coming with the sheep. Then he said, Look, it is still high day. It is not time for the cattle to be gathered together. Water the sheep and go and feed them. But they said, We cannot until all the flocks are gathered gathered together, and they have rolled the stone from the well's mouth. Then we water the sheep. Now while he was still speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep, for she was a shepherdess. And it came to pass when Jacob saw Rachel, his cousin. Just putting that out there.
SPEAKER_03Why are you putting it out there? You know these times were different.
SPEAKER_01Times were different back then. Old Testament, no Spirit of God.
SPEAKER_03Things were a little different then. Come on now.
SPEAKER_01And it came to pass when Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban. Look, they put it out there. His mother's brother. Real talk, though. I I just said his cousin. They they went as far as to say his mother's brother.
SPEAKER_03Do you know what real talk though? What? When you, you know, went go to a family reunion, you know, back in Mississippi and wherever. And all of a sudden you see somebody and you like, ooh, we and first thing you gotta find out are we related?
SPEAKER_01We related. What is this? Okay, I'm going back to 10. And it came to pass when Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban, his mother's brother. Okay. And the sheep of Laban, his mother's brother. She says it again. So don't don't don't be on me about saying a cousin.
SPEAKER_03Or second or third cousin. If it's the third cousin, give him brother.
SPEAKER_01Oh, stop. Lord have mercy. That Jacob went near and rolled the stone from the well's mouth and watered the flocks of Laban, his mother's brother. They keep saying it. Then Jacob kissed Rachel. And lifted his voice and wept. That was a good kiss. That had to be something. It touched his soul.
SPEAKER_03Were you stopping?
SPEAKER_01Okay. He lifted his voice.
SPEAKER_03It was his mother's brother. It was his family. He had been on the run. Running from his butt.
SPEAKER_01I'm in a whole different place.
SPEAKER_03Your head is in a whole different lane.
SPEAKER_01I know the end. They're going to get married. So I'm thinking he kissed her like, oh.
SPEAKER_03He was on the run, running from his brother, who was going to kill him. You guys go back and read the whole account of Jacob and Esau.
SPEAKER_01Okay. He lifted up his voice and wept. And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's relative and that he was Rebecca's son. So she ran and told her father. Then it came to pass when Laban heard the report about Jacob, his sister's son, that he ran to meet him and embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his house. So he told Laban all these things. And Laban said to him, Surely you are my bone and my flesh. He said, and excuse me, and he stayed with him for a month. Then Laban said to Jacob, Because you are my relative, should I therefore serve, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what should be your wages? So during that time he was there, he was working for him. He was like, you know, we family, but that don't mean you get to work for free. What do you want? Now Laban had two daughters. Mm-hmm. The name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. Leah's eyes were delicate. What does that mean?
SPEAKER_03It was a little lazy. She had a little issue with the eyes. It it it it doesn't mean delicate in a good sense. It means lay.
SPEAKER_01Leah's eyes were delicate. Like if she needed to wear glasses, they would be very thick. Her prescription would be real. All right. Leah's eyes were delicate, but Rachel was beautiful of form and appearance.
SPEAKER_03Which means she was fine and she had a body.
SPEAKER_01Body measurements were perfect in every dimension. Oh, sorry. You going to the closet.
SPEAKER_03You done said heifer, grow up hair.
SPEAKER_01Now you're saying you better come on. Now Jacob loved Rachel. So he said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel, your daughter, your younger daughter. Wow. And Laban said, It is better that I give her to you than I should give her to another man. Stay with me. So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed only a few days to him. Only a few days. Because he loved, because of the love he had for her. This is love. The other story was an example of lust. This is a story of love. He served. He said it went by, it went by like that. It was just like, ugh.
SPEAKER_03He served him over 2,500 days. Because he was going to get Which only seemed like a few days.
SPEAKER_01He was he was getting his bone of his bone. He was he was getting her.
SPEAKER_03It's a small price to pay for the for what I'm getting.
SPEAKER_01Seven years? I'm gonna do that. Then Jacob said to Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go into her. Hello. And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast. Now it came to pass in the evening that he took Leah, his daughter, and brought her to Jacob, and he went into her. Now this is where it confused me. Excuse me while I pause. Y'all don't look at each other. He was was he was he tipsy? How did she did she wear a it was after the feast?
SPEAKER_03It was after they had had a feast and you know, had a few and things of that nature. However it happened.
SPEAKER_00It happened. You didn't see? You couldn't see the difference.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Now it came to pass in the evening that he took Leah, his daughter, not Rachel, and brought her to Jacob, and he went into her. And Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maid. So it came to pass in the morning. He woke up. Y'all see it.
SPEAKER_03He's after it had a few from the uh festival.
SPEAKER_01Come here, girl. So it came to pass in the morning that behold it was Leah. And he said to Laban, What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you deceived me? And Laban said, It must not be done so in our country to give the younger before the first time.
SPEAKER_03I'd rather her go to you.
SPEAKER_01Right? Didn't say any of that before. In his head, he was like, Yeah, you can have Rachel, you're gonna take Leah too. We're gonna get a two for one here. Fulfill her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me still another seven years. My goodness. Then Jacob did so and fulfilled her week. So he gave him his daughter Rachel as wife also. And Laban gave his uh and Laban gave his maid Bilha to his daughter Rachel as a maid. Then Jacob also went into Rachel. Oh my goodness. He was just going in to people, just seeing. The story goes on, and he's just had everybody's wife, and he just he he just making babies, the whole tribe. Why you then Jacob also went to the window? You doing Jacob real dirty right now. That's my he my family. That's my brother in Christ. But he he he was busy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but you doing him dirty, though. You giving him a bad name.
SPEAKER_01I'm saying the young man was busy. His his his his quiver.
SPEAKER_03It wasn't him, it was his wives.
SPEAKER_01His quiver was full.
SPEAKER_03Anyway, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01Then Jacob also went into Rachel, and he also loved Rachel more than Leah. That's so sad. And he served with Laban still another seven years.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Here's the thing. First of all, because she uh she did Brother Jacob here kind of dirty.
SPEAKER_01Oh, no ma'am, no ham, no turkey.
SPEAKER_03Look, but no, seriously though. Um well you guys have to go and really uh read the whole account. It is a awesome read. Like I said, you you can't make this stuff up, and this is this is in our word, you know. And part of the reason why we read so much scripture and we're we're going uh a little longer than what we normally would is because we want to encourage you guys to read the word of God. It's this is the you know, um it it really is instruction for basic living, it has everything in it that we need, you know. So some people say, well, it doesn't directly say this or it doesn't directly say that, but yet when you go into the old testament and you read these accounts, you begin to learn the heart of God and how God looks at these issues. For a prime a prime example, God says a man and a woman, a man shall leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife. God said that way in Genesis. When you get over here uh to Jacob and you're you're talking several thousand years, you know, between um Genesis and when Jacob was uh uh doing his thing over here, um, you see that they're married to multiple wives, right? But God doesn't seem to come against them as to say you have sinned. Right. No, he doesn't do that because God knows that we weren't filled with the Spirit of God at that time, but God shows you his heart about it because every time you look at an issue where a person had multiple wives, it was always an issue. There was always conflict, always messy, always messy, a problem because it was not God's design and desire from the beginning. So there were certain things that God did wink at because man did not have the power that we do now, you know, through the spirit of the Holy Spirit. So it is so important that you understand the full counsel and the full understanding of the word of God, and that and that's why we we read so long because we want to encourage you to go in there and read it. But on to this other issue, and how we look at that love issue, right? How we looked at Samson and how he was a man driven after his lust, right, which caused his demise. Here you have another man over here, and this is how you know when you're in love. When you're in love with somebody, you are willing to sacrifice for them. Okay, Jacob here sacrificed over 5,000 days, literally. Wow. You take 365 and you times that time seven years, or better yet, 14 years, and it comes up to 5,100 something days. I forgot the number. I did it a little bit earlier. No, I did it, no, I didn't. I did it early. I just can't remember. It was like 5,100, 100, and something. He was willing to sacrifice, and he said that those those seven years was like a few days, right? You know, and I'm paraphrasing, and then turned around and walked down another seven years because he had been deceived.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03And that's the thing. People don't put so much stock in being in love as a feeling, because feelings can deceive you. I I am one who do who believes that there are those where there is love at first sight. I I believe that there are those who uh may have even known each other from elementary school where there was just a thing, you know.
SPEAKER_01There's stories out there. Right.
SPEAKER_03There are there are those stories.
SPEAKER_00So I I guess I am a marry you when we grow up, and it really happens.
SPEAKER_03I'm a bit of a romantic like that, and I do like to hear those stories. It it does happen. So I'm not saying that there isn't a thing where there's love at first sight.
SPEAKER_01You loved me at first sight on crenshaw.
SPEAKER_03I did.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you did. You didn't. No, on crenshaw, no, no, I didn't. Did you hear me specifically say on crenshaw?
SPEAKER_03I was I was just trying to get your number and see what I can come up on. Stop.
unknownJesus, take me out.
SPEAKER_03Actually, I didn't even try to get your number. No, you didn't. Um the story. If you don't go back and listen to the episodes. Oh in Crenshaw, Los Angeles, California, for those of you who may be in another state or another country, because we want this show to go worldwide.
SPEAKER_00You know we do.
SPEAKER_03Come on. But real quick so that we can end this. Um, real love, being in love with somebody, you want to sacrifice for them. You want to give yourself for them. You want this man right here gave seven years of labor. No, he didn't take, he didn't ask for money. He did seven years of labor, you know, take care of his food and board or whatever, his sustenance. But he worked 14 years for his bride, the one that he really wanted. We're not gonna really deal with the layer part, um, because that's that's not the part of the uh story that um speaks to what we're speaking to. We're speaking to this issue of being in love. I mean, and even when you look at the love that Christ has for us, you know, like we say in John 3.16, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. You know what I'm saying? God gave up his only son for us because he loved us so much, you know. I want to give my life for Dinah. Dinah wants to give her life and sacrifice for me. That's what true love is about. And so, as you're assessing a person and you may have that initial physical attraction, you may have that unexplainable thing that is inside of you that's saying, This person makes me feel a certain way. He completes that that thing can be real, but I can guarantee you this God is never, and I don't use the I don't use absolutes a lot, come on, but God will never make your heart go pit a patter for somebody who is not of him. Now, well, we have a unique situation here where God, where where Samson, you know, fell for the first wife. I can't remember her name.
SPEAKER_01Um was that her name? I don't I don't know if you're not sure. She was in the Philistine named her.
SPEAKER_03But here is the thing though, that that's kind of a unique situation in that. But as a believer in Christ, if your heart is going pit or patter for somebody and and young women, hear Uncle Curdy on this one. If your heart is going pitter-patter for someone who is not in the Lord or consistently um doing what he has to do to serve the Lord, I will tell you, be very cautious of that.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03Don't just let him tell you, yes, I go to church, or even yes, I go to Bible study. Remember the um episode we did on craffish Christian. Being aware of a catfish Christian, you don't want to fall for that. You know, you really want to check this dude out, see what his life is about. And if he is really um for you, he will want to sacrifice for you because that's what real love does. Love, how you know, in the love chapter where it says it's kind, it's long-suffering, it's not arrogant, and it's patient, it's all of these things. Love is a giver. Love is a whole giver. Yeah, and so you don't allow yourself to fall all the way in for somebody who's just a temporary thing, somebody who's not willing to give for you, sacrifice for you, wait for you, you know. And you gotta remember, Jacob was not sleeping with Rachel while he was waiting for those four years. All those first seven years, yeah. Exactly. He did not sleep with her, and that's why he said, Give me my wife. He gave her the honor and the respect that was due her, and that's also why he didn't get rid of Leah, because you God did not want us treating God, God took care of the women of Israel, and you could not just do that. So, anyway, we hope that helps out. Um, gives you some guidelines to look at. We just want to say we love you. And with that being said, oh boy, there goes that music with the marathon episode.
SPEAKER_01Is this our longest one?
SPEAKER_03This is our longest one.
